What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

An institution is a company or organisation that is responsible for making media, for example the news cooperation. The type of institution that might perhaps distribute my product would be a small independent company such as Warp films. This is because they distribute a lot of films in my genre, thriller/horror (e.g. Trash Humpers), therefore it would be relevant for them to do this. The advantage of this are that I will have a lot of control throughout the distribution stages, however as they are reasonably small and not established this means that the budget and equipment will be at a minimum when compared to a large institution such as Columbia Pictures. By Warp films also being associated with thriller films, this helps my audience correctly pre-guess the genre off my film, this should then contribute to achieving my target audience.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The primary target audience for my production would be male, between the ages of 15-25, with interests of reading comic books and attending the cinema. Day to day lifestyle may include attending some sort of educations such as college or a workforce. Thrillers, also commonly tend to attract those who are single as it is not the type of film that you watch as a family. By using a male as my main character, I hope to grab my audience; also by incorporated traces of violence this may alsp capture the attention of my target audience.

On the other hand, it is possible that women or people over the age of 25 may watch my film, this is my secondary, for example a woman may attend the cinema with her husband, increasing the quantity of the views of the production.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I think that I have targeted my audience, through the techniques used in the production. I believe that middle class citizens between the ages 15 and 25 inclusive would be appealed to watch my film as plot is not very complex and therefore easy to follow.

Evaluation Introduction

The brief stated that my group and I must construct and a two to three minute long title sequence of a film of our own creation. It therefore had to incorporate some sort of titles and was then edited to meet the standards of task.

I chose to create a thriller film as my genre, this was due to the amount of knowledge I had about the codes and conventions used in this type of film. Such as, mysterious characters, sharp/quick pace shots, low-key lighting filters, eerie soundtracks, red fonts, sharp objects used as props and violence. As my sequence is a thriller, the synopsis included a mysterious box wanted by many and just as it is discovered by its rightful male owner, a female character strikes him in the head and takes possession of the box.  Not only does this create tension but also countertypes the usual convention of a male being the villain and dominant character, bringing individuality to the piece.

Due to the distinctive codes and conventions used within my sequence, such as a creepy soundtrack and distinguishing red font, I don’t believe it has a sub-genre, as it is quite clear of the genre; however it is arguable that it could have fallen in the category of a horror film.

Dream works was founded on 12th October 1994 and is based in California, United States. The founders of the is company Steven Spielberg, Jeffery Katzenberg and David Geffen. It produces and distributes films. Toy story was their highest grossing film, it grossed $1,063,171,911. They tend to produce animated films aimed at mostly children. 

















20th Century Fox

20th Century Fox was founded 31st May 1935, by merger of Fox Films (founded in 1915) and 20th Century Pictures, Inc. (founded in 1933). The founders of the company were Joseph Schenck and Darryl. F Zanuck. The company produces as well as distributing films. Their highest grossing film is Avatar.













Working Title

Working Title is a production company that was founded in the year 1983 and is in the industry of film production. Tim Bevan, Sarah Radclyffe, Eric Fellner, Liza Chasin, Debra Hayward and Natascha Wharton are the key people involved with the company and its headquarters is in London, United Kingdom. Its highest grossing film is Bridget Jones' Diary with $281,929,795. They commonly produce comedy and romantic comedies.















Universal Studios

Universal Studios was founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle, Pat Powers, Mark Dintenfass, William Swanson, David Horsley, Charles Baumann, Adam Kessel and Jules Brulatour. It is one of the longest-lived motion picture studios to be located outside of Hollywood. It is a part of the American media conglomerate NBCUniversal and subsidary of Comcast.
